Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop - Double Duty: One Story, Two Prompts

That Mama Kat! She's the absolute maven of writing prompts, week after week. Today, I decided to use one story to fit two prompts (because multi-tasking is the new black):

Write a dramatic synopsis of a memorable day in your life, as if it was a movie or TV series.

AND

Share a memorable road trip story!

LIFETIME, SUNDAY, 9PM Cutting the Apron Strings (Family drama, road trip, PG-13)

June Freaking Divorced needed a job, and wanted a new life. Fate steps in, and June accepts a job in California. Eager to begin this new adventure, June takes her two daughters, Shannon, a shy, sullen adolescent, and Erin, an overachiever tween, on the trip of their lives. Imagine, driving two kids across country - when you haven't even driven across your home state. June is willing to risk it all for a chance at happiness.

Meanwhile, back in Pennsylvania, family storms are brewing. June's controlling ex-husband is hoping to gain custody of the kids; June's mother wants June and the kids back, too. Evil plots are devised to bring June's plans crashing down around her head.

You'll marvel at June's patience and driving maneuvers on a trip fraught with grumpy children and stormy weather. With Erin as navigator, will June and her downsized family make it sunny California?

Or will June carry out her threat to drop Shannon off in Arizona, near a sign that says, "Do not pick up hitchhikers - you are near a Federal prison'?

Will the Yucca Motel, a seedy establishment in Gila Bend, get clean towels, and remove the bug wings from their swimming pool in time?

Armed with her last $27 and her new employer's annual report, will June be able to find her office on her first day of work?

If you love family drama mixed with wacky humor, then Cutting the Apron Strings is not to be missed.

  2. What an adventure to take in life. I think June survives and makes it to work the first day with both children having arrived in California with her.
