Book Blurb Friday - Separate Rooms, Shattered Dreams

Lisa from Writing in the Buff provides today's inspiration.

For the individuals who do not know what it is I am trying to accomplish here (Mister), here is the purpose of the meme:

Using the picture provided by Lisa, write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book.

Nosmo King and his wife, Remar, had been married for thirty rocky years. Ongoing petty disagreements had hardened their hearts. The couple discussed divorcing.

But the Kings couldn't agree on what to do with their Victorian home. Neither partner wanted to sell; neither could afford to buy the other partner out.

At an impasse, they remained together. Nosmo retreated into his head, easing his bitterness with cheap booze and his Civil War memorabilia collection. He spent his evenings alone, thinking up intricate scenarios to end Remar's life.

Remar, ignorant of Nosmo's plotting, began her single life in earnest. She immersed herself in friendships and got involved in New Age pursuits. Shaki, her new spirit guide, encouraged her to forgive and forget past hurts and reconcile with Nosmo.

Can Remar melt Nosmo's heart? Or will her life come to a violent end?

Or can love be rekindled before it's too late?

  1. LOL @ the civil war memorabilia and the spirit guide. And those names!

  2. I agree with Fireblossom. The detail about the Civil War crap made it sound so realistic.

Personally, I think they should renovate the Victorian, so each can have their own floor and separate entrances. Perhaps then Nosmo won't have to rent a chipper when Remar "leaves."

  3. Sounds exciting! I wonder if Nosmo King took up the evil weed again?

  4. June, your story is so intriguing ... I agree with Fireblossom too! I can just see the crossed paths in your story and wonder if Shaki will need to step in and block the violence before it it too late?

    Take care,

  5. Sheesh, this sounds like my first marriage. You have a fascinating imagination.

  6. Missing microfiction?

I'm hosting a new microfiction meme.
    Succinctly Yours
begins on Monday, March 28th. Check out the link for the photo and optional word.
    Hope you'll join in.

  7. This is pretty darn original...New Age tossed in too. Sounds like a wild story in the making for sure!

  8. The names are great! If you've read any of mine, you'll know why I'm so impressed with folks and their creativeness with names!

  9. Where do you pull this stuff from? Do you have a dictionary of odd names somewhere?

  10. Nice job! I can't decide if it will be a murder/thriller story (Nosmo) or a romance/self-help book (Remar). You may have found the recipe that has "something for everyone." Very creative take - loved it!

  11. I love this! It's got a little of everything and definitely a must read!

  12. Loved this! The combo of civil war memorabilia and a spirit guide is inspired.

  13. June, this is great. The blurb creates a tension that won't go away until I've found out what happens. A must read book.

  14. Is this ever fun! I love all of it.

Thanks for stopping by. I love your comments...I get all warm inside just reading them!
